Location of the phase-change material (PCM) layer on thermal performance of light-weight walls

Abstract Light-weight materials are commonly used in high-rise buildings to reduce the building weight, but their thermal inertia will increase fluctuation of air-conditioning and heating load indoor comfort. Phase-Change Material (PCM) is employed improve behavior by latent storage, its location has obvious impact on improvement light-weight wall. According this condition, taking common multi-layer wall as a reference, three walls were built with different locations PCM layer, including locating layer inner side, outer distributing uniformly into foamed concrete. The dynamic heat transfer model phase change had verified an experiment. Numerical results showed side best followed concrete, while worst spite high liquid fraction variation. Locating can lower attenuation factor 101.25% 33.87%, delay time 40.00% 17.14%, reduced peak flow 47.69% 17.28%, compared concrete uniformly.
